We found this upside down in my in-laws back yard this morning. It was still powered on, so we found it fairly soon after it crashed. It’s unregistered (no surprise there) and we haven’t had any visitors looking for it.

I’m guessing they flew it too high and it couldn’t handle the wind, so it was blown out of range. The motors are slightly larger than the cell-phone motors on my son’s micro quad and they’ve been geared down to handle the larger props. By all the marks on the props, I doubt this is the first crash.

It has a small camera on the bottom, but with no SD card, there’s no chance of identifying the owners through pictures.

Unless someone goes door-to-door in search of it, there’s no telling where it came from. Somebody just had a disappointing Christmas.

My parents surprised me with a micro quadcopter for Christmas. Crashing it over and over and over again is pretty much all I’ve managed to do with it, but it is a lot of fun to play with. I could easily see it getting away from me outside, though.

I fly a micro helicopter (Blade mSR) and my son flies a micro quad. Neither are meant for the great outdoors. I’ve taken mine outside a few times, but it’s easy for a gust of wind to take it somewhere I didn’t want it to go. The most surprising incident was the thermal that grabbed the copter and took it up and over the house.

It isn’t worth much. Fifty bucks with the controller and charger.

It uses the same frequency as my son’s micro quad. If someone doesn't come looking for it, we may give it a good home.

I have a tiny one as well. It's fine inside but outside with wind, you have to be very careful.

You could report them to the FAA when they come looking for it

No need for that. I discovered the transmitter range is about 300ft. If they flew it up and out of range, the wind could have carried it a long way in auto-descend mode. Chances are, we will never know who owns it.
